Momentum Project Overview

The Challenge 

Schools across Milton Keynes are experiencing increasing levels of complexity and challenging behaviour, particularly within secondary education. Too often, children and young people (CYP) are referred for alternative provision only after difficulties have become deeply entrenched, requiring significant intervention before successful reintegration into mainstream education can be achieved. 

The Momentum Project has been developed to address these challenges through earlier identification, targeted

intervention, and coordinated multi-agency support, helping schools meet needs before they escalate to crisis point. 

Vision and Aims

Momentum aims to create a more trauma-informed education system across Milton Keynes by:

• Developing trauma-informed classrooms and cultures across schools.
• Supporting earlier identification of needs and effective intervention.
• Equipping children and young people with the skills to communicate and regulate before reaching crisis.
• Reducing behavioural escalation, suspensions, and off-site directions.
• Improving outcomes, wellbeing, and life chances for children and families.
• Reducing anti-social behaviour and wider community impacts through preventative support.
